What a year it’s been! At Capella Design, 2024 was all about making bold moves, telling our story, and proving that accessible design can be as beautiful as it is practical.

We’ve been thrilled to see our products find their way into more homes (and hearts) than ever before, and to witness the community around accessible design grow in exciting ways. From new launches to big awards, this year gave us plenty to celebrate—and even more to look forward to. So, whether you’re here as a customer, supporter, or just curious about what’s next, join us as we count down our Top 5 moments of 2024.

05: Bringing Accessibility to New Communities

For too long, accessible products have been confined to clinical spaces and medical supply stores. But that’s changing, and we’re proud to be part of the movement expanding those boundaries.

After showcasing our products at the Interior Design Show in Vancouver, we saw interest coming from new communities. Architects, interior designers, builders, and healthcare professionals like occupational therapists and registered nurses are embracing the role they can play in integrating accessible design into everyday life.

We also received recognition in the design world that reinforces this shift. Winning a 2024 Western Living Product Award and being featured in Style at Home are clear signals that the industry is ready for a new perspective on accessible design. Accessibility is no longer a niche need—it’s an opportunity to elevate modern spaces for everyone.

04: Going "Live" with Selora

Launching the Selora grab bar frame at a Cafe in Australia

This year, we proudly introduced Selora, a grab bar frame that combines beauty, functionality, and a deeply personal story. Inspired by our lived experiences, Selora represents the heart of our mission: proving that accessible products can be both practical and elegant.

One of our proudest moments was celebrating Selora’s first sale. We were sitting in a café in Australia, a little anxious about who would be "pressing the button" to go live with Selora and to announce to our waitlist that it was available. Kaly finally took the plunge, and within a few anxious minutes, we saw our first sale. While this might feel like a small moment to many people, for us, it was an acknowledgment that the tens of thousands of hours that went into Selora were truly going to make a difference in people's lives.

It’s been amazing to see Selora make its way into homes and transform how people think about accessibility. For us, Selor is not just a product; it’s a message we’re so proud to share with the world.

03: Building our New Accessories

This year wasn’t just about Selora; it was about taking the next steps in our product journey. We made our first move into accessories with the launch of the Holm Stability Mug—a product designed to make everyday life just a little more accessible.

We also partnered with incredible companies that share our vision. Our collaboration with Pomp & Sass brought beautiful Turkish towels to our collection, while SnapPower allowed us to offer innovative lighting solutions.

These partnerships reflect our commitment to building a lineup that blends elegance and functionality, and we know this is only the beginning.

If 2024 was anything, it was the year Capella’s story got told—and heard.

Our social media post about Selora went viral, resonating with hundreds of thousands of people around the world. It’s proof of the power of storytelling and the need for a conversation about how accessible design can be beautiful.

We were also honored to be named a finalist for the prestigious Chrysalis Awards, recognizing innovation in age-tech. On top of that, Capella Design was celebrated as a leader in this growing space, which inspires us to keep pushing forward.

The more people we can reach, the more lives we can impact—and this year showed us the incredible potential of that mission.

This year, our biggest wins wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible people who have supported us along the way. Our customers, partners, and advocates have been at the center of everything we’ve achieved, and we’re so grateful for your belief in what we’re building.

To everyone who’s shared a story, purchased a product, or spread the word about accessible design—thank you. You’ve shown us that community is at the heart of innovation and that creating thoughtful, inclusive designs is a mission we share together.

As we move forward, we’re more committed than ever to collaborating with all of you—our incredible community—to continue building a future where accessibility and beauty go hand in hand. Together, we’re proving that great design is for everyone.

Whether you’re new to the Capella Design community or not, we thought folks could use an update on what we’ve been up to this year. And was it ever a lot! From joining the permanent collection of a museum to winning a design award, here’s what you need to know about how Capella Design is creating distinction in the design-forward mobility product category.

  • Incorporating premade food, whether that means ordering out or store bought sides and desserts
  • Opting for gift bags over wrapping paper
  • Sending calls or texts instead of holiday cards
  • Saying no to gatherings causing caregiving strain (or that you just aren’t excited to attend!)

Put Yourself First

Prioritize your well-being this holiday season by scheduling regular self-care activities—whether that is a long walk, your favorite treat, or some uninterrupted time alone. Get customer attention by clean visual and video

Make it easy to buy by eliminating stumbling blocks to purchase. Don’t assume customers know which item you’re talking about in your post.
